One of the most important fights in Mexican history has just taken place. Tonight Canelo took on Chavez Jr in what was supposed to be an exciting match but it turned out to be the opposite. Even before the match began, Canelo was confident and looked mentally stronger than Chavez. Canelo didn't hesitate to start attacking from the beginning of the match, Cabelo's skills were enough to get him the victory over Chavez. Huskies put up a game thriller in 6A

Juarez Lincoln was going in with one thing in mind to the state tournament, which was to bring the 6A state soccer title back to the RGV but unfortunately things didn't go as planned. The Huskies took on Dallas Jesuit in the semi finals. The entire game was a thriller and it ended 0-0 in regulation time. The game then went on to two 10 minute over times but even then the game remained scoreless. The game then went on to penalty kicks, the Huskies gave their best effort but in the end it was Dallas Jesuit who came out victorious.

Brownsville Lopez makes their 5th state appearance

The Brownsville Lopez Lobos have been tough contenders in the world of soccer. This year, the Lobos, made their 5th State appearance, however their ride ended in the 5A semi finals. The Lobos went up against Waller where they fell short of a win 0-4. The Lobos had an incredible season and will use this experience for next season.  Keep an eye out for the Lobos in next year's State tournament!

Progreso represents the RGV at 4A State Semi Finals

The Rio Grande Valley sent three soccer teams to the State Tournament and boy did they represent as best as they could. In 4A Progreso was sent to compete in the semi finals but unfortunately they fell short of a win 0-2 against Bridgeport. Unfortunately in 4A there was no State Title for the RGV but the Red Ants represented to the best of their ability. Way to go Red Ants!

Soccer State Championships in the RGV

The Rio Grande Valley is home to some of the most talented athletes. Athletes flourish in every sport but, the strongest sport around here is boys soccer. In 2012 the Mission Sharyland Rattlers made their first State appearance in soccer. That year the Rattlers went 15-3 and managed to bring back the 5A State Championship. They say that the 3rd time is a charm and that was the case for the Brownsville Rivera Raiders. The Raiders made their first State appearance in 2005 then went in to make another appearance in 2007 but it wasn't until 2015 that their perfect 26-0 season led them to win the 6A State Championship. Brownsville is no stranger to success in soccer, another school that has been successful in the soccer program are the Brownsville Porter Cowboys. The Cowboys have made 4 State appearances (1984,2006,2011, and 2016) it wasn't until 2016 that the Cowboys won the 5A State Championship. This year the RGV will be sending 3 high schools to the State tournament, Progreso, Juarez-Lincoln, and Brownsville Lopez. Hopefully one of those teams will bring back another Soccer State Championship to the Rio Grande Valley.
